After deciding to end his career in Major League Soccer rather than go back to his native Wales, Gareth Bale will go to America in the coming days to join Los Angeles FC.

Prior to the World Cup, Cardiff City had hoped he would be lured by the opportunity to play for Wales, but negotiations with the free-agent never progressed.

According to Telegraph Sport, Bale, the captain of Wales, has decided to go out with his agents this week to sign with LAFC, becoming the club’s most expensive acquisition.

Bale, 32, had spent the previous two weeks talking with his wife about his choices when his Real Madrid contract ended this summer, making him a free agent.

Since its inception in 2018, the club has mostly concentrated its efforts on acquiring young players rather than well-known veterans who are nearing the conclusion of their careers.

Bale will join Giorgio Chiellini of Italy as the club’s second high-profile acquisition. Bale and Chiellini would be qualified to make their debut on July 8 against the LA Galaxy.

The Welshman has got several offers from clubs all around the globe to continue his career after Wales qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 64 years.

Wales’ qualifying has put a hold on any early retirement intentions, and he wants to be in top shape for the tournament in Qatar, which begins in November.

Bale was a world record signing in September 2013 when he left Tottenham to join Real Madrid in a move costing £85.3 million. Cardiff had been keeping an eye on Bale for months in the hope that they would be able to entice the huge star.

Gareth Bale’s time at Real Madrid came to a painful conclusion.

He ended a nine-year run this summer after winning the Fifa Club World Cup three times, three La Liga championships, and five Champions Leagues.

However, his last few years were challenging as a result of a tumultuous relationship with his former manager Zinedine Zidane, who restricted his opportunity to play for the first team. In July 2019, Bale almost signed with the Chinese team Jiangsu Suning.

He returned to Tottenham on a one-year loan for the 2020–21 campaign, making 34 appearances and scoring 16 goals before going back to Madrid.
