Amazon wants to acquire iRobot for $1.7 billion

iRobot Roomba Robotic vacuum cleaner

Amazon decided to step into the robotics sector. Amazon wants to acquire iRobot “the company famous for its Roomba robot vacuums”. Amazon set the price of the deal to approximately $1.7 billion and iRobot will be purchased by Amazon for $61 per share in an all-cash deal.

Dave Limp said: “Customers love iRobot products — and I’m excited to work with the iRobot team to invent in ways that make customers’ lives easier and more enjoyable. Dave Limp is the SVP(Senior Vice President.) of Amazon Devices.

It is not yet confirmed how the company iRobot will be integrated with Amazon Devices but we are sure Amazon has some big surprises coming. Amazon intends to keep the old CEO of iRobots with them.

iRobot has designed various amazing products in the past and they are designing them since 2022. As you know they are still new in the market but even then they are able to sell millions of their Roomba robot vacuums successfully. They are also upgrading their software day by day to compete with their competitors. They named their software iRobot OS, an Ai Powered Platform designed for their robot vacuums and mops.

Amazon Astro Smart Home Robot Vs iRobot

As you know Amazon did not disclose what they are going to do with the product but their intentions with their smart home products are quite clear. Last year Amazon launched their “Astro smart home robot” for $999 and basically, the main feature of this product was Home monitoring. The Roomba Robot can be integrated with other amazon smart home products easily. Roomba may not have better mobility when compared to Astro but their OS is definitely better than amazon in all terms.

Also, chances are amazon wanted to have a clear path to victory, so they purchased their competitor. Ultimately this led to the expansion of the amazon market, the company will have more control over the smart home market automatically.
